Hand machine for pet and steel strapping

PET Straps or Steel Straps

When it comes to strapping, straps are made of various materials and they consist of different configurations. The most commonly used straps are steel and plastic straps, which are also known as PET straps. While steel straps provide an advantage when it comes to securing the heaviest of loads, PET straps are proven to provide more benefits in the packaging industry. Here are a few reasons as to why using PET straps over steel straps is a better idea.

Cost Logistics
Steel straps are more expensive than PET straps, which adds to the overall cost saving. It is estimated that using PET straps can save up to 30% or more on the input cost. Another benefit offered by PET straps is that it offers more strap per roll.

Safety
When it comes to steel straps, there is an issue with the weight of the roll. A steel strap is considerably heavier than PET straps, which makes it harder to work with. It also has sharp edges which lead to worker injuries. Sharp edges are also capable of damaging packaged goods if tensioned very tightly. A PET strap, on the contrary, is lightweight and much easier to work with. Workers do not need to wear safety equipment while handling a PET strap.

Durability
Steel straps are known to have lesser durability, as they are prone to corrosion, especially when used in acid or alkali-based industry conditions. A PET strap is a better option in extreme conditions. They are also relatively more resistant to UV radiations.

Versatility
Steel straps, although sturdier, may also be brittle, especially when acted upon by a sudden force. They can break if the transport vehicle comes to a sudden stop, or if it passes over a speed bump abruptly. A PET strap has some degree of elasticity to accommodate such situations, thus making it more suitable for strapping in general. PET straps also have some retention power, which makes them a preferred choice.

Environmentally Safe
The manufacturing process for steel straps is way more tedious and energy-consuming, which is part of the reason why they are more expensive. In comparison, PET straps are easily manufactured and they can be easily recycled, which is a big advantage, given the present state of affairs with regards to our environmental concerns.
